Tips and Tricks to get the best Crystal Coast vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. 1-Minute Walk to Beach, Half Duplex, Bright & New! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast beach you simply love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
