Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Emerald Isle vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Woody Cottage, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
