Finding the best Crystal Coast vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your family decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beachfront home with ocean-view balcony, two pools, waterslide, & beach access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
