Strategies to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Crystal Coast vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Hip Newly Renovated Historic Riverside Home in New Bern, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
