Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Executive Home with Neighborhood Beach Access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
