Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Booking your Crystal Coast vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Getaway in the sun with updated interior, sunroom, W\/D, & AC - close to beaches has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, email the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
