Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Crystal Coast area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting the best vacation rental:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Dot's Spot, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
