Strategies for getting the best Crystal Coast vacation home experience:

When to visit Pine Knoll Shores & When to book:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Escape - Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
