Tips for getting the best Crystal Coast rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking your prefect Crystal Coast rental:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. The Saltbox-Home in Atlantic Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
