Beaufort

Test your navigation skills on the open water without ever stepping off of dry land with this unique experience that coincides with the 45th Annual Wooden Boat Show. The Boating Skills Virtual Trainer is a unique activity that will put would-be mariners to the test by allowing them to virtually maneuver a Boston Whaler Dauntless 200 while remaining in the heart of downtown Beaufort.

The event stems from a partnership between the Fort Macon Sail & Power Squadron and the North Carolina Maritime Museum, and is a unique opportunity for seasoned mariners and boating newcomers alike to see how they do behind the wheel. Mimicking a lake where there are no real-life risks, mariners will test their ability to approach boats at meetings, crossings, and in other situations where a little deft skill comes in handy. The event is free to anyone who wants to take a turn at the wheel, and the demonstration takes place on multiple afternoons throughout the festival. Serving as a unique component of the sprawling Wooden Boat Show, the Boating Skills Virtual Trainer is a great opportunity for mariners of all skill levels to enjoy a ride with ease, and without ever getting in the water.
