Taste of the South is an annual culinary and fundraising event that celebrates Southern culture, cuisine, and community while supporting student scholarships at Carteret Community College. Held at the college’s Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center in Morehead City, the event showcases the talents of current culinary students and program graduates through a specially crafted multi-course dining experience inspired by the flavors and traditions of the American South.
Guests are invited to enjoy an evening of exceptional food, fellowship, and entertainment while experiencing the creativity and professional skills of emerging culinary professionals. The menu is designed and prepared by students and graduates of Carteret Community College’s Culinary Arts program, many of whom have participated in regional and national culinary competitions, international exchange programs, and other advanced training opportunities.
Beyond the dining experience, Taste of the South serves an important educational mission. Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships and provide opportunities that support students as they pursue academic and career goals. A portion of the proceeds also benefits the Gwen Fisher Memorial Scholarship, helping reduce financial barriers for future students.
Combining Southern hospitality, culinary excellence, and community support, Taste of the South has become a popular annual tradition on the Crystal Coast. The event offers guests an opportunity to enjoy outstanding cuisine while investing in the next generation of culinary professionals and supporting the mission of Carteret Community College.
