Getting the best Crystal Coast vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Newly renovated beach home with decks, ocean views, and outdoor shower has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
