Finding the best Emerald Isle vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation home:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Newly renovated condo, indoor & outdoor pools, 3min walk from beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
