Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the perfect rental home in Emerald Isle:

  • Start by having your group decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Take Me A Wave - Pier Pointe 7A2, Emerald Isle, Oceanview, poolside second floor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
