Double J Texas BBQ is a Texas-style barbecue joint that’s located in the heart of busy Havelock along US Highway 70. Featuring rich smoky flavors, the restaurant is known for its diversion from the traditional Eastern NC-style BBQ, and its wealth of overflowing southern dishes.
Most of the items on the meat-heavy menu are divided into small, large and extra-large portions, and are served with Texas toast and two sides, which makes them fine entrees for hungry patrons. Featured plates include brisket, pork BBQ, smoked sausage, smoked chicken, and St. Louis cut ribs, and diners can opt to order a 5 Meat Sampler, which features all of the above. There’s also plenty of sandwiches, including BBQ, smoked sausage, and grilled hot dogs, as well as the famed Brisket Chili, which is topped with cheese and onions. Additional side dishes include baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, and pepper jack mac and cheese, which are all filling accompaniments to any meal. The restaurant itself is casual with friendly, and Double J Texas BBQ also features a take-out drive up window, as well as available delivery and catering service.
