Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Book your rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 2 Seasters' Cottage, Almost Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
