Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to reserve a Crystal Coast rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your group agree to dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Completely Renovated, Oceanfront Condo with WiFi, HDTVs & Shared Pools/Hot Tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
