Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental home:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Our Getaway Two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
