Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful oceanfront condo in the heart of Pine Knoll Shores with pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
