Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to reserve a Crystal Coast rental home:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Crystal Coast area. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • First, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Home - Newly Renovated - Beach House - Emerald Isle Point Great for Familes has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
