Strategies to get the very best Crystal Coast rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer months are high season in the Crystal Coast area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your group choose trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Pa's Place, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
