Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. Booking your Crystal Coast vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sunbeam, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
