Our top Rental booking tips:

When to reserve a Crystal Coast rental home & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the right Crystal Coast vacation home:

  • To start, have your group select trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Aqua View, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
