Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront views galore, steps from beach and pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast destination you crave, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
