Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Crystal Coast area. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Surf N Dolphin, Oceanview House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
