Strategies to get the very best Crystal Coast vacation home experience:

When to book a Crystal Coast rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectvacation home:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Village West #16, Oceanview Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
