Tips and Tricks to get the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Hear and See the Sound of the Sea has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
