How to book the best New Bern vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Crystal Coast area. Reserve your Crystal Coast rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and pick the perfect Crystal Coast rental home:

  • To start, have your group select the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Spotless, comfortable and safe. Great location with excellent kitchen + backyard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Crystal Coast beach you simply love, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
