Our top Emerald Isle vacation rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Crystal Coast restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your family select dates and a spending budget.
  • Pet-Friendly Beach Home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast attraction you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
