Tips for getting the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Finding the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • To start, have your group choose dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Water View 1 Bedroom Townhome with Loft. has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
