Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Water View 1 Bedroom Townhome with Loft. has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
