Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. To get the largest rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Waterfront Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
