Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group select a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautiful Ocean & Sound Views! Luxury Vacation with In Ground Private Pool! has 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
