Tips and Tricks to get the best Crystal Coast vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Point Emerald B-201, Almost Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
