Vacation rental home tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Pool and private 1 bedroom apartment downstairs has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
