Our home is located in the Down East area of Carteret County. We're on the coast, so there's tons of water-related activities!!Our home is located in the area called Down East, which is part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway. The area was chosen due to the natural landscape and, specifically, the community-based culture of the thirteen communities that comprise Down East. Beach area is within 1/2 mile offering opportunity to savor water sports. Located on the shore of Harkers Island is a nice stretch of beach appreciated by many locals and visitors. It is very kid-friendly with a handsome shoreline. Parking is limited, so get there early!! Kayak units are available 1/8 of a mile from our home at Down East Kayaks. Prices are very reasonable. They deliver and pick up the kayaks for you! www.downeastkayaks.com Cape Lookout National Seashore ferry is within 4 miles. The ferry will take you to Cape Lookout Lighthouse and surround beach areas. You let them know the time you want to return, and the ferry will be at the dock to pick you up! You can choose to go to the Lighthouse side of the park or Shackleford Banks island. Take food, umbrellas, water and anything else you would like to have with you on the beach. Rest room facilities are available at the lighthouse but the visitors center only sells water and a limited amount of snacks.Shackleford Banks is home to 130 wild ponies and they are handsome to observe from a distance. Remember - they are wild so follow the rules that are posted on the island.Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center is located on Harkers Island, roughly 4 miles from our home. The museum contains an impressive collection of Down East history, duck hunting, and culture.A little further away is Cedar Island Horse Stables. There you can rent horses to ride along the beach. It's a giant hit with the visitors. The drive is about 30-40 mins. from our home but well worth the trip. You can appreciate our deck with table/chairs facing the back yard. Space is supplied if you bring along your boat!! Beaufort, Morehead and Atlantic Beach are within a 30-min. drive. A few of the attractions are Fort Macon State Park, Fort Macon beach area, tons of stores and eateries for you to choose from.Available at our home is a book containing a thorough listing and description of these attractions as well as local eateries !

Shackleford is well known as one of the best shelling destinations on the East Coast.

Fin-S Charters LLC launched in 2008. Capt. Daniel Raeburn knows local waters well and enjoys taking everyone from first timers to hard core anglers. Fin-S Charters fishes mainly inshore waters for red drum, trout and flounder. On nice days Fin-S Charters will fish around the inlet and off the beach on our local artificial reefs for a variety of other species. Capt. Raeburn also does mixed trips where they fish and go sight seeing around our beautiful crystal coast.
The Lazy Livin is a private charter docked in the historic port town of Beaufort, North Carolina. We can comfortably accommodate 6 persons. Our standard charter begins with a cruise down Taylors Creek where you can take in views of luxury yachts docked on the Beaufort waterfront on the port side and Carrot island ponies and maritime forests on the starboard side. Then, we make our way to Shackelford Banks, part of th Cape Lookout National Seashore, where dolphin sightings are always enjoyed. So bring your camera! If seas permit, we can venture into the Atlantic Ocean via the Beaufort Inlet and cruise along the oceanside of Shakelford Banks to Cape Lookout. Once inside the Bight, keep and eye out for loggerhead turtles! The Lazy Livin' is a vintage 1971, 43’ Hatteras motor yacht that has been meticulously refurbished with all modern conveniences yet maintains her vintage charm. The yacht is a fine example of early North Carolina yacht building craftsmanship and the Hatteras brand is still a major industry in eastern NC. The captain, Monty Groff, holds a 100 ton Master Captain’s license and has been boating on the waters of the Crystal Coast for over 20 years. He’s also quick with a joke, but don’t believe all of his tall tales. If available, our cruises can also be customized for your special occasion, wedding proposals, anniversaries, small wedding.
