How to find the best vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • To find the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Crystal Coast attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the best vacation rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • To start, have your family choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful 2 bedroom condo on lake has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Crystal Coast beach you love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
