Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To find the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation home in New Bern:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 2 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
