Tips to get the perfect Crystal Coast rental home experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Charming Vacation Home Walking Distance to the Beach and Pool Access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is right for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
